Teltonika RUT281 (RUT2810000000), Compact Global LTE Cat 4 Industrial Router

The RUT281 is an ultra-compact LTE Cat 4 router designed for global use in industrial IoT applications. Equipped with a Telit modem that supports 18 LTE bands, 7 UMTS bands, and 4 GSM bands, the device is ready for deployment in Europe, the U.S., Australia, and the Asia-Pacific region with a single hardware SKU. It is the direct successor to the RUT241 and is aimed at integrators and operators who need a reliable, space-saving cellular connection for CCTV, vending machines, access control, digital signage, and industrial telemetry.

Compact industrial housing

With dimensions of just 83 x 25 x 74 mm and a weight of 130 g, the RUT281 fits into enclosures, control cabinets, and behind panels where larger routers simply won’t fit. The aluminum housing is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -40 °C to +65 °C. DIN-rail mounting and passive PoE input via the LAN port enable clean installation solutions without additional cabling.

Global LTE connectivity & eSIM

The Telit Cat 4 modem delivers up to 150 Mbps downlink and 50 Mbps uplink. The RUT281 combines a physical SIM slot (Mini SIM 2FF) with an integrated eSIM that supports up to 7 downloadable profiles. eSIM bootstrap provisioning enables zero-touch deployments without a pre-inserted SIM card. WAN failover and load balancing ensure that connections remain stable even during network changes or signal drops.

Industrial Protocols & Security

The RUT281 runs on RutOS (based on OpenWrt) and supports a complete industrial protocol stack, including Modbus TCP, OPC UA, DNP3, and DLMS/COSEM. OpenVPN (27 encryption methods), IPsec, WireGuard, and ZeroTier are available for secure connections. The firewall is preconfigured at the factory, and VLAN separation and WPA3 complement the security concept.

Remote Management via Teltonika RMS

The Teltonika Remote Management System allows for OTA firmware updates, configuration deployment, monitoring, and VPN tunnel management to be performed centrally without on-site intervention. WebUI and FOTA round out the management options.
