Products description
Teltonika RUTC42 (RUTC42000000), dual modem edge router with LTE Cat 4, Wi-Fi 6 and Docker
The RUTC42 is an industrial edge router with two independent cellular modems. It is built for sites that have to stay online when one network fails: utilities, retail chains, manufacturing and automation, enterprise branches and smart city deployments. Alongside redundant connectivity, it offers enough processing power to run applications locally instead of sending every data point to the cloud.
Two modems, four SIM options
Both modems run 4G LTE Cat 4 with up to 150 Mbps downlink and 50 Mbps uplink, falling back to 3G and 2G where needed. Each modem has its own physical SIM slot (Mini SIM, 2FF) and an eSIM that can hold up to seven profiles. The SIM switch moves automatically between the physical SIM and the eSIM based on weak signal, data limits, roaming or network issues. Both physical SIMs can operate at the same time, which makes failover and load balancing across two operators straightforward.
Wi-Fi 6 and Ethernet
The wireless module supports 802.11ax in dual band operation with MU-MIMO, reaching up to 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 576 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, with up to 500 simultaneous clients. On the wired side there is one WAN port and four LAN ports at 10/100/1000 Mbps, plus a USB 2.0 type A port for external storage, printers or USB-to-serial adapters.
Edge computing and protocols
A Mediatek dual core running at 1.3 GHz, 1 GB of DDR4 RAM and 8 GB eMMC provide the basis for Docker containers, allowing custom applications and microservices to run directly on the router. On the protocol side, RutOS covers Modbus TCP (server and client), BACnet/IP and RTU, OPC UA, DNP3, DLMS/COSEM as well as MQTT and Data to Server, including custom LUA scripting. Field devices can be connected directly and pre-processed data forwarded to a control centre or cloud platform.
Security and remote management
Secure tunnelling options include OpenVPN, IPsec (IKEv1/IKEv2), WireGuard, GRE, L2TP, PPTP, DMVPN, SSTP, Stunnel, ZeroTier, Tinc and Tailscale. Firewall, DMZ, NAT, VLAN separation, 802.1X, DDoS and port scan prevention as well as a built-in certificate manager are part of the feature set. The router is managed via the web interface, CLI, SNMP v1/v2/v3, TR-069, JSON-RPC or the Teltonika Remote Management System (RMS). Site Manager additionally allows Teltonika TAP access points and managed switches at the same site to be administered from the router.
Build and operating environment
The anodised aluminium housing measures 130.4 x 42.6 x 103.4 mm at 452 g and can be mounted on a DIN rail, on a wall or on a flat surface, each with the matching kit. The router operates from -40 to 75 °C at 10 to 90 percent non-condensing humidity and carries an IP30 rating. Power is supplied through a 4-pin industrial DC connector accepting 9 to 50 VDC, or optionally via passive PoE on LAN1 (mode B). The same connector carries one digital input and one digital output.
