The TRB236 is a compact industrial gateway for applications where coverage matters more than bandwidth. With bands B31 and B72 it operates in the 450 MHz range, which reaches much further into substations, basements, shafts and wide supply areas than standard LTE bands. According to the datasheet, the TRB236A00000 version is certified for 450connect, which makes it a fit for the requirements of energy and water utilities.

Mobile connectivity and SIM management

The module of the A version operates on LTE Cat 1 (up to 10 Mbps downlink, 5 Mbps uplink) and falls back to 2G when needed (up to 236.8 Kbps). Supported bands are B1, B3, B5, B7, B8, B20, B28, B31 and B72. Two Mini SIM slots (2FF) in a double stacked SIM tray enable operator redundancy, backup WAN and automatic switching scenarios. SIM idle protection keeps the second card active at regular intervals so the provider does not block it.

Interfaces for legacy equipment

The 16-pin terminal block provides RS232 (TX, RX, RTS, CTS) and RS485 (2 or 4 wire). Meters, controllers and telemetry units without a network port connect directly. Three configurable digital inputs and outputs, one analog input from 0 to 30 V and one Ethernet port with 10/100 Mbps complete the interface set.

Protocols for energy and automation

RutOS covers the protocols common in the utility sector: DLMS/COSEM for meter data exchange, DNP3 as station or outstation, Modbus RTU and TCP as server and client, a BACnet router for building services, plus OPC UA and MQTT. Data to Server collects values from several sources and forwards them to a target system via HTTP(S), MQTT or Azure MQTT.

Ruggedness and mounting

The anodised aluminium housing measures 83 x 25 x 79.8 mm at 175 g and operates from -40 °C to +75 °C, ingress protection IP30. The wide input range of 9 to 57 V DC with reverse polarity, overvoltage and surge protection suits 12 V, 24 V and 48 V supplies. Idle consumption is below 2 W, maximum below 5 W. DIN rail, wall and flat surface mounting are supported, the matching mounting kit is not included and is ordered separately.

Management in the field

Management runs via WebUI, CLI, SSH, SNMP v1/v2/v3, TR-069, JSON-RPC or the Teltonika Remote Management System (RMS). Firmware and configuration can be updated on many devices at once via FOTA and RMS, keeping existing settings in place.

Applications

Remote reading of electricity, gas and water meters, connection of local network and transformer stations, telemetry in water management, pumping stations and stormwater basins, plant monitoring at sites with weak LTE coverage.
