Milesight UG65-L08GL-868M-EA (A43537), semi-industrial LoRaWAN gateway with 4G LTE, BACnet/IP and IP65

The Milesight UG65-L08GL-868M-EA is the cellular version of the UG65: an 8-channel LoRaWAN gateway with SX1302 concentrator, quad-core processor and IP65 enclosure that adds a 4G LTE module to Ethernet and Wi-Fi. This keeps the gateway online where no network socket is nearby: plant rooms without LAN, sheltered outdoor positions under eaves, or temporary installations during construction.

Radio and coverage

The UG65 operates in the European EU868 band with eight half or full duplex channels and supports LoRaWAN V1.0 and V1.0.2 in classes A, B and C. Sensitivity is -140 dBm at 292 bps, maximum transmit power is 27 dBm. The manufacturer states up to 15 km line of sight and around 2 km in urban environments. Roughly 2000 class A, B and C end devices can be connected at a 10 minute uplink interval. Alongside two internal antennas, a 50 ohm N-female connector is available for an external LoRaWAN antenna.

Backhaul via cellular, Ethernet and Wi-Fi

The integrated 4G LTE module transmits at power class 3 (23 dBm ±2 dB) and uses a mini SIM slot in 2FF format. The cellular antenna is internal; an external LTE antenna is not provided for on this model variant. In addition, one RJ45 port with 10/100/1000 Base-T and Wi-Fi to IEEE 802.11 b/g/n in the 2.4 GHz band are available. WAN failover switches the gateway to the backup path automatically if the primary link drops, which makes cellular a practical fallback for a LAN connection.

Power supply

The gateway is powered via PoE to 802.3af, through the DC connector with 9 to 24 V, or via USB Type-C with 5 V. Typical consumption is 2.9 W, maximum 4.2 W. Power supply, mounting bracket and fixing screws are included.

Integration into building management and control systems

The embedded network server makes the gateway independent of an external platform in smaller installations. Sensor data can be passed directly to BMS and PLC systems via MQTT(s), HTTP(s), BACnet/IP, BACnet/SC, Modbus TCP or Modbus RTU over TCP. If you run an external LoRaWAN network server, the unit works as a packet forwarder towards The Things Stack, ChirpStack, Actility or AWS, among others. A Python SDK and Node-RED are available for your own logic.

Management and security

Management runs through the web interface, CLI via SSH or Telnet, SMS, SNMP, HTTP and MQTT API as well as DeviceHub and the Milesight Development Platform. Secure connections are covered by OpenVPN, IPsec, PPTP, L2TP, GRE, DMVPN and WireGuard, plus access control, DMZ, port mapping, MAC binding and filtering rules. A built-in noise analyzer scans the frequency environment and supports site selection before commissioning.

Enclosure, mounting and environment

The PC and ABS enclosure to UL94 V0 is rated IP65 against dust and water jets, weighs 548 g and measures 180 x 110 x 55.5 mm. Operation is possible from -40 to +70 °C, with reduced cellular performance above 60 °C. Storage temperature ranges from -40 to +85 °C. Mounting options are desktop, wall or pole.
